Not every day on the Camino starts off sunny. Today we woke to a heavy mist or were we in the clouds, at least it wasn’t raining.A simple breakfast of toast dipped in coffee was the start for today, we also picked up our sandwiches for our lunch then back to our private room to packup. Well the room was a large shed, with a bed, no bathroom and no electricity.A quick stop at the bar to top up our water and put on our ponchos and it was then on our way. After 50 mtrs it started to rain and then didn’t stop until we had nearly reached our destination. It was cold and the wind was icy, fortunately we were sheltered by the hill a lot of the way. With the mist (read fog) there was an eerie feel to the day as the silhouette of people in front of us would fade in and out of view.We had planned to take several stops while walking but this was soon forgotten as we didn’t want to loose any body heat, thus we made it to our destination by lunchtime.
Awake early thanks to having a train to catch at 7.42.After shower went for breakfast as arranged for 6.30. However the message hadn’t been passed on so there was nothing available until 7.00.The only course of action was to raid the fridges. Luckily there were yogurts and juice available.Back to our room, pick up bags and a quick march to the gare.Such a shame about the rush as the walk was quite scenic, the river calm and flat, in fact a beautiful day for sightseeing.Stage 2 of today’s adventures was a leisurely train trip to St Jean Pied De Port. The track meandered up the valley hugging the river.
We had views of the mountains we are due to walk up shrouded in mist.Unfortunately we sat on the wrong side of the train so no pictures.
Well after waking at 4.30 this morning in anticipation of our flight. It was a leisurely start, as we had to wait for the children to wake up. Not to say good bye to them but to get our cereal as Ems had hidden the spare box in their bedroom.
Finally leaving at 7.15 to give us time to catch out plane at 14.05
The M25 was unusually kind to us and we arrived at Stansted with plenty of time.
390 steps down and back up on this walk if you do as we did and go down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down and up. Just like us to get stuck in one spot.
