Another full day of driving. Found an hotel for the evening and asked about the local restaurant. They said it was quite good and informed would need to drive.

We drove out the carpark turning left, drove one block to a mainish road and the restaurant was there, Right in front of us.

After a lot of umming and ahhing we finally decided to miss out New Orleans and to head straight to Kentucky. We stopped off at Waco to see some Mammoths. Petrified as they weren’t fossils. Also stopped off at a ‘ghost town’ at Guene, but there were too many people about and the ghosts didn’t appear.

Again we are driving through Texas, will this state ever end.

Whilst driving along minding my own business what looked like a plastic bag suddenly lifted up off the ground and in a swirling motion rose into the air. The next second the car shook and the bonnet vibrated, looking as if it was about to burst open. Then just as it suddenly started it was all over.

The only thing I can think was that it was a mini tornado. We check the dash cam at our hotel, but again it missed the action. Was this just another coincident or are they trying to take us out after seeing their secret rocket.

Well here’s today’s route for anyone is following us.

Today was a big drive. We started in Arizona and finished in Texas, driving straight through New Mixico.

The main bit of interest today was on entering Texas. We were dfiving towards a storm, which appeared to be very heavy with lightening. We were stopped by Border Control and had to show our passport, as these were safely stored out of reach were asked to pull over. Jo retrieved them and after a 10 minute delay we were on our way again. The upside of the stop was that the storm had passed and the road was already drying out.

USA Road trip – Day 2

Today started well with a couple of walks into the desert before breakfast. Why before breakfast? Well by 8.30 A.M. it was getting a bit warm, warmer than our hottest day in France.

Then after eating and packing the car it was back on the road again driving across the Arizona desert. While driving we were :-

  • buzzed by an unmanned jet. (it was too small to hold a pilot and there wasn’t a cockpit)
  • Vodafone welcomed me to Mexico

Unfortunately I forgot to press record on my tracking app. so no route for today.

USA Road trip 2018 – day 1

We arrived in LA last night and after sorting our stuff a bit ready for our road trip we ordered breakfast for 5.30 and went to bed.

5.30 day 1 – We were both awake and ready for breakfast.

5.35 – Still waiting.

5.40 – What is there to eat in the room?

5.45 – Finally decided to ring to find out when the meal would be delivered. “Sorry sir I’ll check what happened to your order”.

5.50 – Knock on the door and eggs & bacon on toast are here and ready to be consumed.

We then went to Hertz to pick up our car. They were going to charge us $200 more quoted. “That is because if the taxes Sir” was the response. We showed them our booking which stated ALL taxes were included.

Jo then reminded them that we had free wifi with the booking. The assistant hadn’t heard of such an offer. A voice from behind her said “Yes the offer was from UK and he would sort us out.

Well we now have free wifi with unlimited data 30 mins International calls and 60 US calls.

Good to keep on top of your booking small print.

After picking up our luggage it was off we go. Driving in the States is nit too bad as long as you remember to :-

  1. Get in the car on the correct side.
  2. Keep your passenger in the gutter.
  3. and be prepared for others to over take you on either side if you stick in the middle lane. That includes massive trucks.

We that’s it for more details check Jo’s blog.

Finally here’s the route.

Holiday 2015

Well we are off on holiday today.
This morning started a bit disorganized. Before completing our packing we had to post off some photos from our last two photo shoots.
I raced upto the post office only to find that my notes on my phone hadn’t updated and I didn’t have the addresses.
Thank goodness for mobile data.
On return to Bryce and Jean’s I had to finish packing and load anything we weren’t taking into the car. The car was being dropped off at Jennys.
We both jumped into the car and I pulled out of the drive. As I stated to pull away jo and I looked at each other and said ‘aren’t you supposed to be driving dad’s car’ .
Cars sorted and Bessy picked up we arrived back at Jean’s to find she had made sandwiches for us.

Well the morning raced by and all too soon the minibus arrived to take us to the airport.

Was it the driver or the seats that smelt of b.o. I’m not too sure but the smell kept wafting by the whole trip.

On arrival at check-in we found out that jo had 2 requests for an upgrade,  while I had none.  So off to the service desk to try and get it sorted.

Well it turned out for the best in the end as we both got upgraded to business class despite there being 14 people waiting.

Next was getting through customs and security.

I managed ok but jo was pulled over

Well we managed it to the lounge and a well earned beer.
