Following on from our climb up Mt Snowdon we decided to take a quiet walk around the lake. From the shore nearest our campsite we could see the opposite side and the steam railway running along the edge of the lake. We both thought it would be an easy walk to keep us from seizing up.
So we headed off along the shore, only to be diverted along the road past some private property. So much for walking along the shore line all the way. After about a km the pathway diverted onto a dissused railway line and le remainder of the walk to the head of the lake was very pleasant with views across and down the lake.
After crossing the stream at the head of the lake the path again followed the road, but instead of following the shore line the road started climbing up the hillside. It seemed to go up and up moving away from the lake. When we eventually got a glimpse throught he trees the lake was far below us. Eventually we picked up a foot path that started leading back down the hill towards the lake. But our luck was not to last and the path started climbing again.
We decided to stop for some lunch on the edge of a cliff over looking the lake. I had just taken a bite of my sandwich when a head appeared from out of the bush, a few seconds later a girl appeared puffing and panting, ‘Thank goodness I’ve come across some humans, I took a wrong turning and decided to scramble up to find the path’ she panted before disappearing off down the track. Looking over the edge we decided she was either mad or suicidal to have attempted the climb.
The path continued to meander around the lake, climbing and dropping as it went untill it finally droped back to the lake near the Miners Hospital. By this time we were both exhausted and just wanted to get back to our camp for a rest.
