Day 29 – Sancerre

We awoke to rain and it didn’t take us long to decide to book another night.

It’s not that we’re wimps, we maybe, it’s just that we see no point in cycling in the wet wondering if we will be able to dry out by this evening.

Also if we move, can we find somewhere dry for tonight.

We don’t have a fixed deadline so moving or staying makes no difference, except staying we keep dry.

Travel day is here?

Finally travel day is here, we have had our pre-departure covid test and all is OK.

Todo list

The todo list is all clear, so it’s off to the airport we go.

Having rushed around, we’ll rushed may be an overstatement, all the tasks completed it was in the car to the airport.

We didn’t have to worry about parking thanks to the taxi service of sister Jenny.

The long wait to get away continued as we arrived 6 hours early for our flight. Thankfully we have lounge access and luckily we both do not drink as all the alcohol on offer would have been too tempting.

There was a large range of beers, wines and bubbles, but only one tap for water although that one tap served hot, cold and sparkling water.

We heard the call for our flight and realised that the lounge had completely emptied out, we were the only ones left.

So it was rush to the boarding area just to join all the other passengers waiting to board.

Still not gone

We’re still not on our way as there are 2 more days to go.

There time remaining is going sooo slowly.

I’ve cleared the notice board of jobs to be done, only to have it filled up again.

Todo list

Some of the jobs may seem strange, but there’s a reason for all of them.

Dis-arm mouse traps. As it’s getting cooler here we have had a couple of mice checking the place out. Not wanting any new tenants we placed mouse traps around the house. They seem to have done the job of discouraging them, but we don’t want top come back to traps containing rotting mouse remains.

Empty tea pot. Last time we went away for a week or two we forgot this task and came back to a colourful growth on the tea. I wonder if this was how penicillin was discovered.

When the list is cleared hopefully the last task will be negative and we are allowed allowed to get away.

The waiting will soon be over, hopefully.

Camino de Santiago Day 28

We have sussed out todays route and there’s a big uphill today, the only thing was we forgot to see ehere it started. So after leaving we startwalking uphill. The road winds up the valley again following the stream. To our left and to our right are large hills. Is it one of them we are going to climb. No as we turn yet another corner more hills appear. We continue climbing steadily up.Eventually a path leads off to our left, cyclists are signed to follow the road. A quick check of the map and we proceed down the footpath. Down being the opetative word. This however was short lived and the real climb started.Walking up along the edge of the hill looking across the valley we could see other walkers and ould see we had a lot more height to gain.I thought that there would be as much downhill as uphill today, but I was wrong and we continued on up for most of the day. At one point the path was steeper and more difficult than the Pyrenees.

Camino de Santiago Day 27

Today started off overcast, the threatened storm of last night never materialized, or if it did I slept through it.We started with a slight incline and headed off to the clouds. The sun took longer to appear but when it finally did it made for yet another hot day.Today was mainly road walking, there were a couple of variants we could have taken. One would have added 1km the other an additional 3km and more strenuous. So we took the shorter and easier routes.Although as I said it was mainly road walking the route followed the course of the river, with high hills either side. We occasionally caught glimpses of the motorway, sometimes at our level and at others way above us.

Camino de Santiago Day 03

We started the day with a warm shower followed by breakfast. Where we are staying also provides the meals for those staying at the monastery, but they are kept seperate from us. They also have a seperate areas for those have full or continental breakfast. I wonder if that is to stop us from seeing what each other is offered.

Today was a much better day for walking, we could actually see where we were going and also had views across the valleys. At one point we were stopped by a fellow walker who pointed out the hills covered in trees, very much like either New Zealand or the UK, neither of us really understood her excitement.
