Europe 2016

Saturday 14th May.

Well last nights meal went OK I think, as Bryce’s beer went down too well and Gary kept on wanting more. Being the polite English man I am I had to keep him company.

After a good nights sleep I finally woke at 10:30 only to find it was still dark outside. When I looked again at the time, this time on my phone I realised it was only 10:30 in the evening. So it was back off to sleep again untill 12:00, 1:00, 2:00 3:00 and finally 5:30.

We had a few things to do before we left, like have breakfast, coffee, clean the car and drop it of at Jenny’s. We’ve hired a car to drive to the airport.

The drive was clear and we arrived at the rental company only to find we had dropped it off at the domestic terminal not the international terminal. Luckily the Avis employee drove us to the correct terminal.

As we have Koru membership we are straight through checkin and security clearance without much waiting. Also being New Zealand the terminals are never that busy.

Once through it straight to the lounge, well after a detour to the toilets (the entrance was hidden without any signs pointing the way)

Now only a 4 1/2 hour wait until our flight….. Better pace myself on the corona’s….

Cambridge

Today is the start of our last house sit before we travel off to Europe and two weddings. To start off our health and fitness we decided to go off for a bike ride.

The initial ride was going to be to the velodrome and back a nice easy start. Having reached the Velodrome Jo decides it won’t be far enough so decides that we should head off back along the way we came and then off then continue along the river ride as far as we can go.

Perhaps we should have planned this a little better.

Off we go returning to Cambridge and then cycling onto Lemmington and picking up the ‘River Ride’ again.

This section isn’t so much of a river ride more a boring ride along side a fast road. At least we don’t have to ride on the road.

Jo suggests that we turn round and head back at 11:00 to which I reply  ‘What time is it anyway is it 5 to 11?’

Jo on checking her watch confirms that indeed it is 10:55. So we turn round and head back home.

Here is the route taken on today’s ride.

Kerikeri

After the long hot and humid days in Hamilton the weather final broke and the rain started falling just as we were about to leave for our latest house sit in Kerikeri.

The house we are due to stay at is situated opposite the beach at Opito Bay in the Bay of Islands. Hopefully the weather will improve by the time we get there.

We decide to leave Hamilton at 10:00 a.m. and as per usual without much planning we had managed to get packed and loaded the car just in time to be able to pull away on the stoke of 10:00. I’m not sure how we manage it but no matter how long we leave to pack and get organised we always seem to fill the time to the last minute.

On the way we had to stop off quickly on the outskirts of Auckland as we had to drop off a camera lens we had just sold. Even with this stop we made good progress and with another stop for a leg stretch and coffee we still made it to Kerikeri by 4:00 p.m.

Gary and Roes are both very nice and provided us with dinner. Buddy there dog is cute and will keep us occupied while we are here.
